Great Caribbean Vacations

    Puerto Rico

    • This United States territory may not be what comes to mind when considering Caribbean vacations, but this island has much to offer, including plenty of coastline, museums and theme parks. Most major cruise lines offer service to the Port of San Juan and most major airlines offer flights to the island as well. Puerto Rico has several types of lodging accommodations, including inexpensive hotels and lavish resorts. Besides beaches, the island is home to historical sites and festivals. Like most islands in the Caribbean, peak tourist season in Puerto Rico is from December to April, so if you want to avoid the crowds, plan your trip during the off season.

    Martinique

    • Martinique is at the eastern edge of the Caribbean Sea and offers world-class beaches, diving and shopping. You can reach the island by plane or by boat, as several airlines and cruise lines provide transportation to the island. Martinique measures 50 miles long by 24 miles wide and enjoys a year round average temperature of 79 degrees F. The island has several types of lodging, including villas, apartments, hotels and campgrounds. Nature lovers are sure to enjoy Martinique's botanical gardens, volcano and tropical forest.

    Bahamas

    • The Bahamas are comprised of more than 700 islands (most of them very small) and 2,400 cays. Of these many islands, 14 account for the majority of tourist destinations, including Grand Bahama Island and Nassau/Paradise Island. The Bahamas are popular with both families and couples and you can find good deals on vacation packages during the winter months. Located 50 miles from the Florida coast, the Bahamas offer a wealth of vacation activities, including water sports, fishing, diving, swimming, golfing and tours.

    U.S. Virgin Islands

    • The U.S. Virgin Islands are comprised of three islands: St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas. Each island offers stunning scenery, miles of beautiful beaches and a distinct brand of vacation offerings. If it's nature and a couples setting you're looking for, give St. John a try. If you're a history lover and can do without all of the touristy perks, head for St. Croix. If you're looking for a vacation of shopping and clubbing, St. Thomas is the island for you. In addition to a host of world-class hotels, resorts and dining choices, the U.S. Virgin Islands offers American visitors an added perk: no currency exchange rate.
