A Brief Introduction to the Shellfish Allergy

Many individuals - both young and old - suffer from a shellfish allergy.
While the causes behind this type of allergy are misunderstood to one degree or another, it has been determined that there is no cure for this at this time.
There are many that suffer from this condition that are only allergic to one specific type of shellfish.
These individuals may indulge in other types of shellfish, though.
Then, there are people that are allergic to all types of shellfish.
When a person suffers from this type of allergy, they typically start to experience the symptoms within minutes.
However, in some cases, a reaction may initiate several hours later.
There are many uncomfortable symptoms that may develop in an individual that is experiencing a shellfish allergy.
These include the following: • Swelling and possibly even tingling sensations around the mouth.
This may include the lips, the gums, the tongue, and/or the upper throat area.
• Many experience mild to severe bouts of Eczema.
• It is not at all uncommon for the individual to suffer from tightening of the chest and experience problems when it comes to breathing.
• When the digestion process starts, the shellfish allergy sufferer may experience abdominal pain.
This may or may not be accompanied by nausea.
• In most cases, a person will start to vomit and may even experience diarrhea.
• Many may complain of being dizzy.
If this is the case, they should be observed as fainting could occur.
If a severe form of the shellfish allergy is experienced, anaphylaxis may set in.
This consists of many symptoms that could be life threatening.
They include severe swelling, allergy induced asthma and other issues.
If you or someone else consumes fish and displays any of the above mentioned symptoms, it is important to ensure that medical care is sought.
Not doing so could result in placing life in jeopardy.
