How to Mount an LCD Above a Fireplace

    • 1). Use a stud finder to find two studs near the spot where you want to mount the television above your fireplace. Use a pencil to mark the spot where you will secure the mount. When mounting over a fireplace, you will most likely want to center the television above the hearth.

    • 2). Drill pilot holes into the drywall in the spots marked to accommodate the number of holes on the mounting bracket. Use your socket wrench to secure the wall bracket to the wall with the lagscrews provided with the wall mount. You will have to apply a large amount of torque to tightly secure the screws. If you are installing the mount on stone or brick, drill 4-inch lagscrews into the wall using an electric drill for the wall bracket. This will penetrate the stone or brick to ensure that the mount is secured to the wall. If the 4-inch lagscrews are not included in the wall mount package, you can find them at your local hardware store.

    • 3). Remove the stand portion of your LCD television by using a screwdriver to remove the screws holding it in place. Carefully pull out the bottom of the stand.

    • 4). Attach the second half of the wall bracket to the back of the television using a screwdriver and the provided screws. The wall mount kit should come with a plethora of different types of screws to account for the differences in specific models of televisions. Find the screws that correspond to the type of television you have and secure them in place.

    • 5). Slide the bracket mounted to the back of the television into place on the portion of the bracket that is secured to the wall. The pieces should slide into place easily when properly aligned. Check to make sure the pieces are properly connected before removing your hands from the television.
