Podcaster - What You Say Can Hurt Your Business!
A business audio or video podcast has an advantage over radio and TV because they are automatically targeted for international audience.
It is also free from FCC rules making it an "open air" with no restriction.
This also makes it affordable to anyone because there is no license necessary.
The fact that there is no restriction to what you can say over the podcast -- after all, it is your own podcast, that doesn't mean that you can actually say anything.
This is true if you respect your target audience and know that they don't accept obscenity and profanity.
A business podcast needs to stay professional.
And as a professional, podcaster should be sensitive to the fact that they are podcasting for a purpose.
Although it is fine to create controversy at times, there are lines that all of us should not cross.
I don't intend to say that podcasters have to become someone else and act as a fake character in a podcast.
Quite the opposite, being transparent and honest are very important in the world of social media.
Another point that podcasters should be aware of, especially they are podcasting for their business and seek for sponsorships from big brands, is that they should not only comply with FCC but also avoid political discussion, profanity, foul language, religious attacks and other sensitive topics.
Having an excellent track record is important because as a sponsor, a company is being tied to the podcast.
The image of the podcast will affect how people see the company behind it and its sponsors.
There are certainly exceptions, and for those you should know better than I do because they are specific to certain situations and target audience.
I hope you have a lot of fun podcasting!
