How to Obtain a Lawyer for Traffic Court
- 1). Contact your state bar association. The bar association is the professional organization that handles licensing and regulation of attorneys in your state. Your state bar will maintain an attorney referral list from which you can contact an attorney to discuss your case.
- 2). Contact your county bar association. In addition to the state bar association, your local county will maintain a bar association that offers an attorney referral service as well. A benefit of contacting your local county bar association is that the attorneys on the county bar roll will be local practitioners who will have experience handling legal matters in the local courthouses.
- 3). Check listings in your local yellow-pages or online via an Internet search engine. Many lawyers place private advertisements that will usually contain their given specialties and contact information.
- 4). Visit your local courthouse, or arrive early on your court date to speak with a traffic attorney. If you look into the traffic courtroom you will see many local traffic attorneys who are reviewing cases with clients or the prosecutor. Ask one if he can handle your traffic matter. If you are confused you can ask the courtroom bailiff to point out an attorney for you. Do not worry about upsetting or bothering the attorney, he will be happy to have another client or refer you to a colleague who can handle your case.
