How to Get the Address for a Credit Card Company Settlement Department

    • 1). Call the customer service department for your credit card. The toll-free number can be found on the back of your credit card or on your monthly statement. You will need to speak to a representative in the hardship department, which is for those individuals experiencing substantial financial hardship, or the collections department. Let the customer service representative know you need the address for the settlement department, and she will transfer you to the appropriate department. If you have the phone number for the correct department, you can call it directly and bypass the customer service department. Usually phone numbers for those departments are not readily available.

    • 2). Ask the representative for the address of the settlement department. You will be provided with the address. Make sure you write the address down. Read the address back to the representative to make sure you have the correct information. Ask the representative if the payment should be directed to anyone's attention other than the settlement department. Follow the representative's instructions. Sometimes the company wants payments sent to the particular representative handling that account. If so, address the envelope to the attention of that person, along with the settlement department address.

    • 3). Make sure you have written confirmation from the settlement department. When settlement agreements are made, it is always good to get something in writing before you send your payment. Your letter serves as proof that you settled your account balance. Sometimes disputes or disagreements can happen after the payment has been made. Keep your written confirmation with your other important papers.

    • 4). Verify with the representative that you have the correct amount to settle your account. Write your check out for the right amount, and make sure your account number is on the voucher portion of the check. Send your payment to the address provided by the collection or hardship department. Confirm, after 7 to 10 days, that your payment has been received by calling the appropriate department.
