Filet Mignon Steak Dinner Ideas
- Filet mignon is one of the most tender and lean cuts of steaks and needs little more than a grill and salt and pepper to make a tasty meal. Marinades and sauces, however, can give a filet mignon that extra something special. A wine marinade of Cabernet, Merlot or Shiraz coupled with spices and garlic can make the filet extra flavorful. Other liquids ideal for a marinade include balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, barbecue sauce, lemon or pineapple juice.
- A bright green vegetable side dish is a nutritional and visual complement to a filet mignon steak. Green dishes such as steamed broccoli, creamed spinach, grilled asparagus, a mixed green salad or sauteed green beans are a healthy choice for a steak dinner. For more color, add a side of roasted tomatoes, glazed carrots, caramelized onion, steamed butternut squash, grilled corn or grilled bell peppers.
- Nothing accompanies a steak like potatoes. You can add a baked potato to the meal or au gratin, scalloped, roasted, mashed or boiled potatoes. Other ideal starch options include mushroom risotto, pasta with an herb- or cheese-based sauce, rice pilaf, rice and sweet potatoes.
- A chocolate dessert can continue the richness of the meal all the way through to the end. Cheesecake is a classic after-steak dessert. A rich chocolate cake is also an appropriate complement especially when coupled with fruit such as cherries or raspberries. For a lighter version, try a chocolate mousse. For non-chocolate options try classic desserts such as apple pie, bread pudding or a simple fruit plate.
