How to Set a Webcam as a Background
- 1). Download and install VLC Media Player. This program offers a user-friendly method for setting a webcam feed as the desktop image. There is no native Windows software that can do this.
- 2). Locate the link for the webcam feed. Every webcam hosted online has its own unique link for the feed. Even a local webcam will have its own internal link, which can be located through the webcam's software. The link will likely be in the form of an IP, or Internet Protocol, address.
- 3). Copy the link for the webcam.
- 4). Open VLC.
- 5). Click "File," then "Open Network Stream." Paste the link to the webcam into the text box. Click "OK." The webcam feed will begin being played in VLC after a few moments.
- 6). Click "Video," then select "Direct3D Desktop Mode." VLC will minimize and the webcam stream will play on the desktop as the background image.
