Have Some Needlepoint Fun with This Sunny Design for Day 104

After dreary winter days, it’s refreshing to see the sun in spring. Day 104 of the 365 Needlepoint New Year’s Resolutions Challenge invites you to take advantage of sunny spring days by stitching this simple yet fun needlepoint project. The 3.57-inch square needlepoint design can be stitched in your spare time—even if you only have an hour or two here and there. The dreary winter days will fade as the sun brings out loads of smiles while you work the easy needlepoint pattern.

If you’re new to needlepoint, you will be amazed at how quickly you can learn the basics and create an exciting work of art while doing so.

There are no set rules for working this pattern; but you may find it easier to start in the center and work outward toward the edges of the needlepoint canvas, working the background area last. Remember that each colored square on the needlepoint chart represents the intersection of a vertical and horizontal thread on the needlepoint canvas. The success of the finished needlepoint piece is dependent on the quality of supplies you use; so don’t skimp or cut corners by buying inferior ones; only choose good canvas, threads and fibers for working the design. If using leftover thread from other projects, make sure it is in good condition—no piling or loose twists. Also, check scrap canvas pieces for excess knots or limpness.

Although worked mostly in yellow tones, it is a good idea to choose a detailed color scheme for this needlepoint design before you start stitching.

Because of the frequent color changes, it is highly recommended that you use short strands of thread (around 16 inches long) as you stitch to keep a consistent twist and tension.
