How to Make Hearts Out of Crayon Shavings

    • 1). Prepare your workspace by lining it with a layer of newspaper or a large piece of cardboard then laying a piece of wax paper on top.

    • 2). Unwrap the crayons, then using a potato peeler, cheese grater or pencil sharpener, make the amount of crayon shavings that you require. Do the shaving over the sheet of wax paper.

    • 3). Use the stencils or cookies cutters to arrange the crayon shavings into heart shapes. Keep in mind that the shavings will melt and change their shape a bit, so try to give them a uniform thickness throughout. You will also be able to adjust the thickness during the ironing phase.

    • 4). Remove the cookie cutters or stencils carefully so that the piles of shavings retain their heart shape. Lay another sheet of wax paper gently over the crayon-shaving hearts.

    • 5). Put the iron on a low setting and carefully iron the hearts so that the shavings melt together. Don't press too hard or else the wax might stick and/or the hearts might lose their shape. You can adjust the thickness and shape of the hearts using the iron.

    • 6). Allow the wax hearts to cool and harden for at least one hour. Carefully peel away the top layer of wax paper then peel the hearts away from the paper. Trim or shape the hearts with scissors, if desired.
