A BlackBerry is a smartphone device produced by Research In Motion Inc., or RIM. BlackBerrys come in various styles with various capabilities, offering consumers a plethora of good reasons to purchase them. Available to people subscribing to most major phone services, BlackBerrys can be spotted throughout the world in use by businesspeople and other folks who depend on their phones for more than just voice calling. Using RIM patented technologies, BlackBerrys have also set the industry standard for real-time email.

    Email

    • BlackBerry devices have gained popularity through RIM's email push technology. The push email feature notifies users of messages in their email inbox. Allowing up to 10 accounts to be linked per phone according to the Blackberry website, push email technologies enable users to have constant access to their email inbox. Instant access to email is a major benefit for those who regularly receive or send emails, particularly for those who work out of the office. For the email feature, a user needs to have a data or Internet plan for their phone.

    Security

    • The BlackBerry units are known to focus on security, thus thwarting possible viruses or hacking of any kind. BlackBerry has been dubbed "the 'most secure' handheld device and mobile platform available," according to CIO.com BlackBerrys have been certified for safety by information-sensitive institutions throughout the world. BlackBerry users who exchange private emails, attachments or other sensitive material can feel secure in knowing that their device has been branded safe.

    Availability

    • BlackBerry smartphones are available through most major carriers worldwide. Unlike some phones which hold exclusive rights to carriers, BlackBerrys offer consumers the ability to shop around for a plan and provider that meets their needs while still finding a phone that works for them. Using the BlackBerry website, consumers can scan through their own region of the world to find the device they want in accordance with a BlackBerry service provider.

    Printing

    • According to Computerworld Inc., in 2010, RIM entered a business partnership with Hewlett-Packard's partner PrinterOn, which runs printers in various Internet hotspot locations such as hotels, coffee shops and libraries. The benefit of this partnership enables BlackBerry users to choose their nearest PrinterOn hotspot to print hard copies of emails or email attachments on their device, which must be a BlackBerry OS 4.5 or newer. PrinterOn will offer the appropriate software to BlackBerry users so that the users can take advantage of this opportunity.

    Applications

    • The BlackBerry offers many mobile applications, such as gaming, Weather Channel, Pandora Radio and social networking sites, such as Facebook. A person who spends a lot of time social networking is a definite candidate for BlackBerry ownership. BlackBerry offered more than 2,000 applications available to consumers as of June 2009.
