Byond By009-going Beyond The Mundane

Beyond everything

Byond BY009 is a bar shaped device that looks rather cool, as it is black in colour with shades of red on the spines. Entire chassis is made out of plastic, which turns the handset into a fingerprint magnet. The front panel has a 2.4 inch TFT colour screen. A circular shaped D-pad given below the screen is flanked by three keys on both sides. Two separate calling keys along with menu key are placed on the right; while contacts, FM and power cum call end key are provided on the right. Below the control key cluster is an alphanumeric keypad, which we found to be quite comfortable to use.

The spines are completely bare save a pin charging slot, a multipurpose USB slot and LED torch given on the top panel. The back panel is plain and no texture has been provided to provide extra grip to the handset. A 1.3-megapixel camera has been provided on the upper portion while loudspeaker grill is there on the bottom half.

Media Fun

Apart from looks, the device also comes loaded with quite a few goodies to satiate your multimedia needs. The handset has a 1.3-megapixel camera, which comes with a plethora of options like image settings, effect settings and quality settings to help you customize your pictures. The camera is capable of taking decent pictures, but flash could have made things even better. Video recording is also possible. However, you must plug in a microSD card to start the camera.

Then there is the music player, which is capable of playing almost all the popular music formats like MP3, WAV etc. The player also lets you organise your tracks into play-lists. The device lacks internal FM antenna, so you need to plug in your handset to start the FM radio. The FM reception is pretty good even in indoors and you can save up to 20 FM channels in the phones history. Internet browsing is also possible through the inbuilt browser, but it is not a very good experience.

Being a dual SIM handset, the BY009 can support two GSM connections, but only one connection is active during the call and the other appears out of range. The performance of Bluetooth is satisfactory. A 2000 mAh battery powers the device and easily lasted us for one and a half days of average calling and listening to music. The phone is available in the marker for Rs 2,999.
