How to Record Both Vocal & MIDI Keyboard Sounds on a Computer
- 1). Install your music recording software onto your computer by following the given instructions, if you haven't already. Open the program when it's finished installing.
- 2). Plug your USB microphone into your computer by sticking the USB cable on the end of the microphone into the USB port on your computer. Follow the installation wizard if one comes up. Make a new track and name it "vocals" or whatever you want to record with the microphone. Make sure the "input" for that track is the name of the microphone.
- 3). Plug your Audio/MIDI USB interface into the computer by sticking its USB cable into one of your computer's other USB ports. Follow the installation wizard if there is one. Make a new track and select and title it "guitar". Make sure that the input for this track is the Audio/MIDI USB interface. Plug your electric or electric/acoustic guitar into the audio interface and record just like you would with a MIDI instrument.
- 4). Plug your USB MIDI keyboard into your computer the same way you plugged in your microphone and audio interface. Follow the installation wizard if one comes up. Make a new MIDI track and title it whatever you want. Use the keyboard to make drum sounds, string sounds, guitar sounds or anything else your audio recording software will allow. Make sure that the input for the tracks you're using your keyboard on are set to MIDI keyboard.
