How to Get the Best Airline Rates to Mexico

    • 1). Use travel web sites to find discounted airline tickets. Sites such as Expedia and Travelocity often feature reduced prices on airline rates. You might be able to find more significant discounts if you choose travel packages where airline tickets are bundled with lodging.

    • 2). Register at airlines' web sites. Many airlines send out monthly or weekly e-mail newsletters in which they notify customers of special deals. You'll then receive advance notification on specials.

    • 3). Reserve your flight well in advance of your trip to Mexico. Generally, airline tickets are most expensive if you buy them at the last minute. If you purchase your tickets at least 21 days before flying, you will generally get better rates.

    • 4). Be flexible with your travel dates. It's generally most expensive to fly to or from Mexico on Fridays and Sundays. The cheapest days to fly are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

    • 5). Remain open to flights with layovers. Nonstop flights to Mexico are usually more expensive than those that feature one or two stops. If you aren't under time constraints, enduring a few layovers can save you some significant money.

    • 6). Sign up for airlines' frequent flier programs. Most airlines offer reward incentives for people who use them frequently. If you fly a specified number of miles or flights, you can often receive discounts or even free trips.

    • 7). Travel to Mexico during the off-season. Since most people flock to Mexico in December through May, you'll find better airline rates if you travel between June and November.
