Can You Prevent Breast Cancer?
All women face the risk of breast cancer.
The risk begins at a relatively early age and increases with age.
At the age of 90, a woman's risk of getting breast cancer is about 14%.
That means that one out of every seven women who live to be 90 will get breast cancer some time during her life.
In spite of all the research to determine the causes of breast cancer and find ways to prevent it, medical science cannot yet explain why some women develop breast cancer and some don't.
We can, however, take positive steps to reduce risk in the hope that these actions will prevent an outbreak or reduce its severity.
While the results of these actions cannot be guaranteed, it is nevertheless wise to take them.
What can you do? - use deodorant that doesn't contain aluminum (some experts believe that the aluminum blocks the sweat glands, you won't perspire, but you might also retain some of the aluminum in your body.
) - have your level of Vit.
D checked.
Many experts now believe that low Vit.
D levels are related to a number of diseases.
- perform monthly breast exams! Most lumps are benign.
A cancerous lump often feels hard and pea-like, and typically will not move.
- eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and cut way back on processed foods.
- choose olive or canola oils instead of hydrogenated or corn oil which have been linked with increased risk of breast cancer.
In addition: Estrogen - in both women AND men- must be metabolized properly for good health.
The two main pathways of estrogen metabolism are the 2-hydroxyestrone("good estrogen") pathway and the 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone ("bad estrogen") pathway (16a for short).
Research shows that the ratio between these two pathways is vitally important for normal cell growth.
