How to check and/or change a Mickey Button G-tube
- 1). The first thing you need to do is verify there is no granulated tissue building up around the tube. This is scar tissue and can be very painful to the person. To remove you need to get your Nystatin/Triamcinolone cream, gauze, sliver nitrate & lidocaine jelly.
- 2). You will start by numbing the area with the lidocaine jelly wait at least five (5) minutes before you wipe off the excess.
- 3). Once you wipe off the excess lidocaine jelly you will apply the sliver nitrate swab to the granulated tissue. "Some people say it will only burn the granulated tissue but be careful it will burn healthy tissue also!!!". Once you have burned off all granulated tissue you will want to wipe off any excess silver nitrate to contain the burning and prevent any further burning.
- 4). Now apply the Nystatin/Triamcinolone cream and cover with spare gauze to prevent any left over creams or jellys from transferring to clothing.
- 5). After a little while has pasted you can check and adjust the inflation on the ballon. You will need to 5-10cc syringe and the sterile water. Making sure you know what the proper amount of fluid is to be in the ballon you will need to attach the empty lure lock syringe and retrieve the sterile fluid if it is not the correct amount add or subtract the necessary amount to proper inflation directions.
- 6). If it has been determined that your Mickey button is beyond repair you will remove all fluid as stated in step 4 and pull the button straight out of the stomach. Once you pulled the tube out have NEW tube already to be put in place with a gentle but firm push insert the new tube and fill with sterile water.
- 7). After about a day or two check the inflation to make sure the new tube doesn't leak. And now you are done!!!
