How to Learn Farsi
Instructions
1Ask someone you know who speaks Farsi to have a language exchange. If you do not already know someone, try going through a nearby college or university. Their graduate students or their family members might be willing to help. Not only is this option inexpensive, but it also can help you learn more conversational skills and customs that you can apply when you travel.
2
Take a course through a local school. Some colleges and community colleges might have courses that teach Farsi or another Persian language. These courses are best for people who want technical training in Farsi. But before you sign up, make sure you do not plan to travel to a Persian country for at least four months, which is the average length of a college course.
3
Take an online language course. "Phrasebase" is one free online course. It emphasizes listening and speaking before technical writing, reading and grammar. This might be helpful to those who only speak languages based on the western alphabet. It's also the most helpful for those who plan to travel to Persian region. Through "Phrasebase," you can set up audio penpals through your computer, as well as take other listening lessons. Once you're comfortable you can move onto the technical aspects of Farsi.
4
Get an audio language program. Rosetta Stone software is used by government employees in NASA and the Department of State. It emphasizes listening and speaking first, and then focuses on grammar. This software also allows you to practice your speaking. Plug and microphone into your computer, and Rosetta Stone will analyze your speech patterns and accents.
