The Violin: Seven Steps to Learn to Play the Violin

This article is aimed at the complete beginner, so if you are already an accomplished violinist this may not be what you are looking for.
If you are thinking of starting to play the violin, then you have come to the right place, to examine the seven steps and to get you on the correct road to becoming a violinist.
Here are the steps.
The first thing you need if you want to play the violin, is of course a violin, but it is extremely important that you buy wisely.
My first tip is to stay away from anything electric as this will distract you from the initial task of learning your instrument, and besides, they are usually heavy in comparison with an acoustic.
If it Is possible go and try one out in a shop so you can get a feel for it as every instrument has its own particular characteristics.
When you have got your violin the next thing to do is to find a good teacher.
Don't think you can learn the instrument by your self.
If you don't have the money to go to private lessons, you can find them for free online with lessons from Blue Grass and Jazz to Classical.
Practice is the key to success on the violin or any instrument but don't be drawn into the trap that you should spend hours a day doing it.
This is great if you enjoy it, but I strongly advise when you are just starting to play the violin, to limit your time to short ten to twenty-minute bursts, but a couple of times a day.
Often a new student will practice long hours then stop for ever when the enthusiasm wears off.
It is much better a little at a time and to stop before you get bored or fed-up, so you can look forward to the next time.
Don't think that it is all going to happen in a day, because it doesn't work like that.
If you understand that it is a long road to learn to play the violin then you will not be disappointed if after a year you are not so great.
Not only don't be discouraged by set-backs, actually be encouraged by them because it is these set-backs that move you forward.
Set-backs are part of the learning process.
Try to find friends who play either the violin or other instruments as it is fantastic to have "jam" with other people.
Finally enjoy the learning process, and understand that even the great players, are still learning.
