The Beautiful Designs of Lily Pullitzer

Even if you don't know who Lily Pullitzer is, I am sure you have seen her clothes.  Lovely dresses, casual skorts and shorts, comfortable and stylish shoes, and funky sunglasses all with bright splashes of color are a part of Lily Pullitzer's signature style.  She has had her finger on the pulse of fashion for fifty years now and not missed a bit since she started her empire back in 1959.  Here is a short history on her amazing life and career.

Although she grew up as a socialite in Roslyn, New York, she adopted a bohemian lifestyle when she and her husband moved down to Palm Beach, Florida and started a citrus fruit stand.  Every day she would come home with juice stains all over her clothes.  Who knew fruit could be so messy?  She decided to solve the problem by having her seamstress design an exorbitantly colorful sheath dress that would camouflage the stains.  Her idea paid off in spades.

She soon was selling more dresses than juice, so she converted to being a fashion designer.  Her designs have been worn by such prominent figures as Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis, Michelle Obama, Brooke Shields, and Demi Moore, just to name a few.  Many children of celebrities have also been adorned with the bright and lively colors of Lily Pullitzer's designs.  And why not, they essentially capture the essence of youth with their splashes of blue and streaks of yellow.

Lily Pullitzer's clothing pieces aren't just fun clothes to wear either.  Many of her prints aim to make a social statement about the politics of the day.  Her prints are expressive and aim to celebrate the varied connections that we all essentially share and the differences that make us all unique.  This is what makes Lily Pullitzer successful both in the fashion world and in life.
