People Magazine is an American weekly famous for celebrity gossip and human-interest stories. Originally called People Weekly, it is published by Time Inc., a division of Time Warner, one of the largest branded media companies in the world. The magazine was formed by publisher Andrew Heskell and Richard Stolley and was first released on March 4th, 1974. The Editor of People US, Larry Hackett, has been replaced by Jess Cagle, the Editor of the Time Inc.-owned Entertainment Weekly. Andrea Caknis is the current Editor of People South Africa published by Caxton Magazines, a leading publisher in South Africa. New York is the magazine's headquarters, and it maintains Los Angeles and London as its editorial bureaus.

Be it Hollywood or parties on a remote island, the magazine keeps a tab on the activity of stars. In-depth research goes into giving readers a glimpse of the private lives of their favorite stars and their homes, holiday spots, health and fitness secrets and sometimes even their favorite meals! This magazine provides you with piping-hot gossip off the press. A People magazine subscription will give you a healthy mix of roughly 50% of celebrity gossip and 50% human-interest articles.

People has proven to be the nattiest weekly fix; revealing celebrity scoops and enthralling real-life stories. Hot fashion and beauty trends, health, fitness, d©cor and travel - and weekly TV schedules, lots of puzzles and more fill the pages of the magazine. With a readership of 46.6 million adults, it is clearly the largest audience recorded for any American magazine. In 2006, the circulation of the magazine reached 3.75 million and revenue was expected to top $1.5 billion. An interesting thing to note, the magazine had $997 million in advertising revenue in 2011, which is the highest recorded advertising revenue for any American magazine.

The magazine refrains from printing only gossip and this invites celebrity publicists to propose exclusives to the magazine. The magazine is best known for its yearly special issues like €World's Most Beautiful People€, €Best & Worst Dressed€, and €Sexiest Man Alive€.

Time Inc. has been tremendously successful in the digital platform, with all of its network sites reaching 50 million unique users each month, placing them among the top 20 largest media companies online. People.com only focuses on celebrity news, and drew 39.6 million page views by the end of the next day of the Golden Globes in February 2007; then a month later, the day after the Oscars, the site drew in 51.7 million page views breaking the previously set record.

In an industry-leading effort by Time Inc., the company launched all of its titles as tablet editions, and hundreds of thousands of readers upgraded to digital subscriptions. People digital magazine ranks among the top apps in their category in various digital magazine newsstands. With a People digital subscription, readers stay well-informed of their favorite celebrities periodically, without the hassles of remembering when to download the next available issues; a much-loved attribute of being a digital content user.
