There are several ways that teenagers can go green and live a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. Because teenagers tend to influence society's trends, the potential for your actions to impact the world is enhanced. Increasing environmental awareness starts with enjoying the eco-projects you are involved with and by inspiring others to go green. - The likelihood that a teenager will purchase a cell phone is nearly 100 percent, according to the International Telecommunication Union. This can cause a great deal of electronic waste (e-waste). Once your phone has reached the end of its life, there are companies and nonprofits, such as Eco-cell, to which you can donate your old phone. These companies refurbish and reuse it, thereby reducing your e-waste.
- The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative is an activist group that focuses on environmental cleanup and conservation projects. It is officially recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Become a certified Apprentice Ecologist by creating your own local project on environmental protection, photograph your project in action, write an essay about your project and what it means to you, and register by uploading your project photo with your essay on the Wilderness Project website listed in the Reference section. You will win a tuition scholarship if you win the Wilderness Project's annual "Best Community Impact" award.
- Through Teens for Planet Earth, you can communicate with other teenagers around the world, sharing ideas and initiatives to take action towards a sustainable future. You can easily share videos, websites, blogs, photographs, events and projects. Teenagers created this site to make it enticing and engaging to other young people. According to the National Institute of Health Sciences, environmental websites geared towards teenagers must include features to excite and hold their attention in addition to providing statistical and factual information.
