Black Pearl Rings Impart an Air of Elegance and Sophistication

Black pearls are also referred to as Tahitian Black Pearls.
They are relatively rare, although not as rare now that man cultures pearls.
Because of their rarity, they are highly prized and thus jewelry made from these gems is usually more expensive than a similar piece made with a regular white cultured pearl.
Black pearl rings are very popular pieces of jewelry that are often worn alone, as an engagement ring or as fashion jewelry.
This type of pearl is not, strictly speaking, always black in color but it will show off various hues of dusky colors ranging from a deep green to ebony.
They possess the same opalescent sheen that normal white or cream pearls have.
Due to being coated with the same substance that an oyster's shell is made from and it is said that you can find up to forty different shades and variations of black amongst these types of pearls.
Pearls in general are very smooth and soft in contour, and the black pearl is no exception.
However, because they are so rare you will more often find small imperfections on the black varieties than you would with the more traditional pearls.
There is also more variation found in their actual shape.
While a perfect pearl should be spherical you can find black pearls that are somewhat elongated.
These elongated pearls are often set into rings as it is easier to disguise their actual shape in this way.
Because small imperfections are overlooked with black pearls, the main determining factor when judging quality is the color of the actual pearl.
It should be even and consistent over the entire pearl.
A black pearl ring is a particularly beautiful and stunning piece of jewelry.
Best set in silver or platinum, black against the silver is both exotic and luxurious.
Black pearl rings are often surrounded by small diamonds, which helps to further emphasize and highlight the beautiful sheen and color of the pearl as the white diamond contrasts beautifully with the dark, mysterious pearl.
Alternatively, many rings are set with a solitaire pearl; again showing off the simple beauty of this extraordinary gem.
Another popular setting is to set a white pearl next to a black one.
The contrast is startling, yet is a beautiful example of balance at the same time.
There are also many imitation rings available.
These are usually quite a bit cheaper than those made from genuine gems are and while they do not have the same shine as a genuine pearl they can be a good alternative to those who are not able to afford the genuine jewelry.
