The Prom Dress

Going to the prom is every young girl's dream event.
Months are spent planning what to wear with friends and family alike.
The latest trends will be discussed and there will always be the pressure of making a good impression at this event.
It is always a good thing to at least have an idea of what kind of dress or style you would like to wear.
You will be choosing from various popular styles including flowing dresses, asymmetrical designs, going strapless, sleeveless, princess style or even an edgy and unique look.
What color would you like? How about blue, black, purple, gold, silver, embroidered, with ribbons or white? Will the materials be chiffon, satin or a mixture? These are details that can help make up your mind quicker when it comes to selecting the perfect dress for you.
The answers to these questions are normally used as a general guideline when you actually begin shopping for them.
There is no harm in trying on other styles, colors and designs to see if they look good or if you prefer them over the others.
Make trips to various stores to check out the dresses much further in advance to be on the safe side.
If possible, go with your friends or family so that you can get their advice on whether a style or color might suit you.
Get online and check out the online catalogs as well to see if there are any that strikes your fancy.
Buying a dress from your neighborhood store might mean that someone else could wear the same dress to the prom! However, buying it online increases the chance that it will be unique on prom night.
There is no absolute guarantee of course but the chances are slim someone else will log on to the same online store to get the dress you chose.
There are many styles and here are some tips you can follow.
If you have a slender figure, a dress in the style of a strapless, sleeveless or a sheath would look fabulous.
If you would like to look taller, wear a dress with a matching colored shoe to give you a very streamlined and lengthened look.
For legs that are not quite slender, try to wear strappy heels or an open toed shoe which will show off your pretty colored toenails.
Avoid wearing a V-shaped neckline if you have wide hips as V-necklines tend to point towards the area of the stomach and hips.
An empire style dress will also be a great choice for those who would like to hide a slightly plump tummy as this style brings emphasis to the top part of the body and just skims the torso.
Dress materials are also quite important.
An A-line dress made with a softer flowing fabric flows gentler on the body than one made from a stiffer materials such as those usually found with princess gowns.
The next thing to think about is color.
What are your favorite colors? Do they flatter your skin tone? Do you want to go with the latest trendy colors? A good tip would be to pick some wide color swatches and hold them to your face whilst looking in the mirror in a well-lighted room; preferably with good sunlight.
Observe the colors that tend to make you look alive and brighter.
Choose variations of those colors.
However, since you will be under bright lights during your prom, try to incorporate that situation into your choice as well.
Keep in mind these tips but don't be too rigid with them.
These are just guidelines to help you choose the perfect dress for your night of glamor, fantasy and enjoyment.
