'Lonavala' is a term that comes from the word €lonavali' in Sanskrit, which means many caves. Thus as the name says, this little town in Maharashtra has many caves about and around the city, like the Bedsa, Bhaja and Karla Caves. Lonavala in located on the Pune-Mumbai train line. It was once a sleepy, quaint hill station, which was known for its sumptuous chikki, a sweet made out of jaggery. Today it's a very popular weekend getaway, especially for the people in Maharashtra. Lonavala is lined with many souvenir shops and offers many places for pleasant walks as well is an ideal base for discovering places and hills nearby. To add to your delight, there are brilliant waterfalls here, which look even prettier during the time of the monsoons. This is a stunningly beautiful place and is surrounded all around by lovely valleys, milky waterfalls, hills, cool winds and lush greenery. Rajmachi Point, Tiger's Leap, Shivaji Udyaan and Ryewood Park, Lion's Point, Duke's Nose, Lonavala Lake, Lohagarh Fort, Bushy Dam etc. are some of the attractions around.
