How to Create a Boudoir Bedroom

    • 1). Paint the walls. A boudoir is painted in romantic colors, such as pink, red or purple. If your room is small, pick one wall for an accent color to avoid closing in the room. If you prefer, you can also wallpaper the room with a romantic print in the above colors.

    • 2). Hang velvet draperies. Lush fabrics play an important role in a boudoir design. In addition, these heavy fabrics block out the light, creating an intimate space. Choose a color that will coordinate with your choice of wall color. For example, if you chose red or purple, choose gold-colored velvet draperies. If you chose pink, pick a darker pink velvet for the windows.

    • 3). Place a dressing or makeup table in the room. No boudoir is complete without a dressing table. This can be painted white to help break up the wall color. The dressing table should have an accompanying stool. Cover the stool in the same color fabric as the drapes or choose a coordinating color if you prefer not to recover the stool. Place an ornate standing mirror in the center of the dressing table.

    • 4). Place candles around the room. Candles will increase the intimacy and romanticism in the room. Find decorative and ornate holders and place them at varying locations around the room.

    • 5). Place a chaise in the room. A chaise is more romantic than a simple chair and gives a lounging feeling to the room. Choose a chaise in the same color fabric as the drapes.

    • 6). Add decorative lamps. Lamps for a boudoir should have dark shades in keeping with the intimate and close feeling of the room. Place a lamp by the bed or on the dressing table.
