How to Find the Security Key for Your Internet Network

    • 1). Connect your wireless router to your computer using a hard-wired connection with an Ethernet cable.

    • 2

Open a C: prompt within Windows by clicking on the "Start" button on the Windows desktop, selecting "All Programs," then "Accessories" and "Command Prompt." (See graphic.)

    • 3). Type the following into the command box that opens: IPCONFIG /ALL
The list that populates will have the IP address of your router next to the entry "Gateway."

    • 4). Open Internet Explorer, type the router's IP address into the address bar of Internet Explorer and hit "Enter" on your keyboard. A log-in screen will open.

    • 5). Type in "Admin" for the User name. The password is usually one of four things: "admin," "password," the router brand name or "1234."

    • 6). The router's user interface will now appear and the security key you are looking for will be visible.
