Changing an Entire Look With Amish Curio Cabinets
The real beauty was in the wood.
For me, the depth and richness of the wood really makes a cabinet stand out.
Small errors in the wood can make the entire cabinet look cheap, so it was important to me that the curio cabinetsI was looking at had a very nice and even final finish.
This is done with thorough sanding, excellent wood selection, and real craftsmanship.
It's hard to get that kind of quality if you're shopping from factory made pieces.
When it's well crafted the in the traditional Amish method you can see the difference.
When I started looking I thought a lighter piece would be nice for the bedroom and a darker piece would be great for the living room.
I find that the darker curio cabinets tend to look a little more formal while the lighter ones are a less formal.
I don't really want the bedroom to look formal, but I do like it to look classy.
The Amish curio cabinets came in different wood types so I was able to have what I wanted.
The living room needed something a little taller.
I went with the Old English collection for the living room.
The darker wood, the taller cabinet, and the reflective glass pulled the whole room together without even trying.
Even the couch seemed a little newer and dressier just by adding this one piece of fine furniture.
The Somerset curios were perfect for the bedroom.
The lighter wood kept it from being imposing while the slimmer, thinner profile was really quite perfect for the casual look I wanted.
Because the decorative feet are just perfectly quintessential, I decided to get two in the end.
I am really happy that I did because the bedroom really looks great and well dressed but it is so comfortable to be in that everyone can come in for a good movie or a special story.
I am quite pleased with the final result.
Adding curio cabinets to both of these rooms has brightened them up, created a well drafted room, and has enhanced the beauty of our home for a fraction of the cost that I thought we would have to spend.
