How to Record FIOS With a DVD Recorder on an HDTV
- 1). Locate the RCA video outputs on the back of your FiOS receiver. These are color-coded yellow, white and red. They will be labeled "output." Insert the jacks from one end of an RCA cable into these ports, making sure to mind the color-coding.
- 2). Insert the cable's other three jacks into the RCA audio/video inputs on the back of the DVD recorder. The inputs will have the same color-coding.
- 3). Locate the RCA audio/video outputs on the back of the DVD recorder, and insert one set of ends from the second set of RCA video cables into these ports. Connect the other ends into RCA inputs on the back of your television.
- 4). Locate the HDMI output on the back of your FiOS receiver. This will be a thin rectangular port, and should be labeled "HDMI," "output" or both. Insert the opposite end into the corresponding HDMI input on the back of your HD television.
- 5). Turn on all three units. Set your DVD recorder to receive its signal from your FiOS box. This is usually done with a button on your remote control; either turn the channels below 2 to reach the video modes, or press a button such as "TV/Video" or "Input." Check your DVD recorder's remote control for specific instructions if you need further help.
- 6). Set your television to receive its audio/video signal from your DVD recorder. This is usually done using your remote control. Look for a button labeled "Input," or "TV/Video," or "Video Mode." Check your television's remote-control guide for more specific instructions. You should see a signal from the FiOS box through your DVD recorder on your television if all is working properly.
- 7). Insert a blank DVD into your DVD recorder. Allow the recorder to load the DVD, then press record to begin recording. When done, press the "Stop" button. You can start and stop recording multiple times as long as there is space on the disc.
- 8). Finalize the disc to make it playable on any DVD recorder. DVD recorders vary as to how this function is run, but it is usually from the main menu on the recorder. Check your DVD recorder's manual for specific instructions.
- 9). Switch your television's audio/video mode back to HDMI for high-definition television viewing. HDMI cables will ensure a significantly better picture.
