TomTom 5 Vs. TomTom 6
- TomTom manufactures portable GPS navigation systems generally used in cars. The company was founded in 1991 and went public in 2005. TomTom is based in the Netherlands but has offices across Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East with over 3,000 employees.
- TomTom Navigator 5 offers Planning preferences and Toll Charge preferences. The Planning preferences allow you to plan and demo a route before you even leave the house. The Toll Charge preferences let you choose how you want to handle toll roads -- "Ask," "Always avoid," "Never avoid" -- and save your choice. The Compass preferences feature, also new to version 5, allows the compass to show on the main screen. TomTom Navigator 5 still has traffic and weather checking options similar to previous versions.
- TomTom Navigator 6 includes more features than previous models such as TomTom Buddies, which allows you to find and instant message with your buddies. With version 6, you can plan your route based on your desired arrival time, and set speeding alerts that will notify you if you exceed the speed limit. Also navigate straight to the contacts you list in your address book with Contact Navigation.
