How to Find a Spiritual Mentor

    • 1). Write down your spiritual goals. This defines exactly what you want achieve on your spiritual path and helps you to focus on it. For example, you may want to increase your faith, relinquish your fears and have the courage to take risks in life.

    • 2). Write down the qualities your ideal spiritual mentor would possess. Define exactly what you want from him and what you hope he will do for you.

    • 3). Make your request known to the Universe. Pray about it and ask God in faith to send the right mentor into your life. Tell your friends, family and colleagues that you're looking for a mentor, and ask them for recommendations.

    • 4). Take part in the spiritual community and spiritual events. Attend seminars, classes and workshops that explore spiritual ideas that interest you. Meet the teachers of the events and discuss your goals with them. Ask them for advice on finding a spiritual mentor. Attend community spiritual gatherings and church services. Surrounding and opening yourself up to the spiritual community heightens your chances of meeting the right mentor.

    • 5). Express your goals honestly to a potential mentor. Help her understand where you presently stand on your spiritual path and where you want to be. A mentor cannot help you unless she knows what you need. Ask her if and how she can help you achieve your goals. Ask her about herself, her beliefs and her goals.

    • 6). Trust your gut instinct. Your innate sense of truth can always tell if something is right or not. Pay attention to your heart's signals even if they are faint. If you are unsure, take time to think about your decision before committing. Pray about it. Even though everything may seem perfect, if your instincts are telling you something's not right, it's best to choose another option.
